Workshop for leaders

Am I leading or reacting?

A leader's automatic work modes and their impact

A leader may know what kind of leader they want to be, yet still act habitually in everyday situations—taking over, intervening too quickly, controlling, avoiding an uncomfortable conversation or carrying more responsibility than necessary.

This practical workshop helps you notice when you choose your way of leading consciously and when you act from an automatic work mode. You connect the result of your Leader Work Modes Profile to one real leadership situation, compare your intention with the possible impact and choose one concrete leadership experiment.

Practical information

Duration2–2.5 hours
Formatin person or online
Internal grouprecommended 6–16 leaders
Public grouprecommended 8–20 leaders
Pre-workLeader Work Modes Profile and selection of one leadership situation
Working methodsshort input sections, individual reflection, case-based work and voluntary discussion

Do you recognize any situations?

You want to give people ownership, but step in before they have time to find their own solution.
You want to be supportive, but end up taking the problem on yourself.
You value good collaboration, yet postpone a conversation that needs to happen.
You want to protect quality, but your need for control leaves others less room to decide.
You want to move quickly, but others have no time to think or take responsibility.

These reactions do not mean that you are a bad leader. It is often a familiar and once useful mode of operation that starts before you can consciously assess the situation.

What do we do in the workshop?

Before the workshop, you complete the Leader Work Modes Profile. This short self-assessment helps you notice which automatic ways of acting may become more active under pressure or uncertainty. Your result remains private.

recognise the work mode you return to most often
map one real leadership situation
separate the facts from your immediate interpretation and impulse
compare your intention with the possible impact of your behaviour
practise the Leader's Choice Pause
choose one leadership experiment to try over the following two weeks

The workshop centres on one of your own leadership situations—not abstract theory.

What will you take away from the workshop?

an initial picture of your automatic work modes
a clear map of one leadership situation
a better understanding of the gap between intention and impact
a practical way to create room for choice before acting
one concrete experiment for leading more consciously in everyday work

The workshop does not judge what kind of leader you are and does not claim that the profile shows how others really perceive you. It creates reasonable hypotheses that you can check in the future through your behavior and feedback.

Who is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is suitable for new and experienced leaders who want to:

lead more stably and less on autopilot
understand their repetitive leadership reactions
give people more clarity, trust and room for responsibility
prepare more consciously for difficult conversations and decisions
make sense of their influence without self-recrimination or a list of simple "right moves"

Two formats

In-house workshop

For leaders within one organization. Examples and cases are adapted to the company's real situations, and leaders gain a shared language for making sense of automatic work modes and conscious leadership choices. Individual profile results remain with participants and are not shared with the company.

Public workshop

For leaders from different organizations. The focus is on each participant's personal way of leading and one real leadership situation of their own. Sharing is voluntary and the profile result remains private.

Further development

Recognising one automatic work mode and making one different choice is an important beginning. Lasting change develops as you learn to spot the same pattern earlier across different situations, regain room for choice and practise a new response consistently.

The longer "Conscious Leader" programme continues this work through relationships, feedback, delegation, difficult conversations and your impact on the team.
